News Exhibition Roma People from Kyustendil Region – History, Popular Customs and Culture

On the occasion of the International Roma Day, April 8th, the Regional History Museum “Academician Yordan Ivanov” and Largo Association in the town of Kyustendil have the pleasure to invite you on the opening of the exhibition Roma People from Kyustendil Region – History, Popular Customs and Culture.

The exhibition includes photos, facsimiles of scientific publications and periodicals, text and materials revealing the life of the Roma people from Kyustendil region since the time they migrated to the Bulgarian territories till now-a-days. Being a part of bigger European project, devoted to the Roma and Sinti Holocaust during the Second World War, it focused on the period of time before and after the War. The exhibition presents topics such as: Moving from the Town of Kyustendil into a New Quarter; The Communist Resistant Movement and the Gypsies; The Gypsies from Kyustendil during the Second World War; School and Education; Cultural Life and Community Center, etc. It shows also their public customs, traditions, rituals and crafts. Faiths and religions, and the respective family holidays among the Roma people are described too.

News Project RECALL - Recalling the Roma and Sinti Holocaust: Paths inside the Memory

Kyustendil Regional History Museum is a partner in an international project focused on the Roma and Sinti Holocaust during the Second World War, the so called "Samudaripen" (in Romania) and "Porrajmos" (in Italy). The project’s title is RECALL - Recalling the Roma and Sinti Holocaust: Paths Inside the Memory and is financed within the Europe for Citizens Programme, Strand 1 – European Remembrance. The activities lasting from the 1st of October 2014 till the 30th of September 2015 are implemented by 6 organizations from 3 countries Italy, Romania and Bulgaria: National Opera Nomadi (Italy, project Promoter), Lucian Blaga University in Sibiu (Romania), Regional History Museum "Academician Yordan Ivanov" in Kyustendil (Bulgaria), Romani CRISS - Roma Center for Social Intervention and Studies in Bucharest (Romania), LARGO Association – Liberal Alternative for Roma Civil Unification in Kyustendil (Bulgaria), Vidya Art and Culture of Asia in Rome (Italy).

Regional History Museum “Academician Yordan Ivanov” ...

News Regional History Museum “Academician Yordan Ivanov” presents the photo-documentary exhibition “Kyustendil and the First World War”. The exhibition is displayed at the Strimon exhibition hall situated in the museum yard. It was opened on 27th of November 2012.

The exhibition was elaborated within the cross-border project “Transforming the Lines of Division into a Point of Cohesion” of Municipality of Kyustendil (Bulgaria) and Municipality of Doyran (FYR of Macedonia) co-financed by European Union through the Bulgaria-FYR of Macedonia Cross-Border Programme, CCI number 2007CB16IPO007. Thematically, it presents separate moments of the numerous important events that took place in Kyustendil and of the soldiers’ lives at the Doyran front. The connection between the battlefield positions and the Headquarters in practice was possible due to the frequent meetings between General N. Zhekov and the staff and the commanders of the First Army and the Ninth Pleven Division – the generals Stefan Nerezov, Dimiter Geshov and Vladimir Vazov.

Cross-Border Programme ....

News The Regional History Museum "Academician Yordan Ivanov" – Kyustendil was awarded a grant after IPA Cross-Border Programme, Bulgaria – FYR of Macedonia, CCI Number 2007CB16IPO007 to implement the Project “Cultural Heritage of Our Ancestors – Spiritual Mainstay of Our Common European Future”. The duration of the project is 12 months and its commencement date is 24th of July 2012. It will be implemented jointly with the Municipality of Kriva Palanka in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia acting as the cross-border partner.

The Project activities are to be implemented in the both sides of the border including the following:

- archive documents examination and a mutual inquiry card model for the tangible and intangible cultural heritage development;

- undertaking complex terrain expeditions on the territory of the cross-border region Kyustendil – Kriva Palanka and development of data base on the tangible and intangible cross-border cultural heritage.

- preparation and organization of 2 two-day Festivals of traditional culture in Kyustendil and Kriva Palanka with review-spectacles of traditional garment, children’s holidays “The Games of Our Grandpas and Grandmas” and cross-border traditional cuisine exhibitions;

- organizing a two-day seminar “Borderless Cultural Heritage” in Kriva Palanka with the participation of experts from Bulgaria and FYR of Macedonia working in the field of Kyustendil – Kriva Palanka cross-border cultural heritage studying;

- elaboration and promotion of advertising information materials (cultural products);

- Elaboration and promotion of 2 photo exhibitions on the cross-border cultural heritage.

News Prehistoric Thracia 6th – 3rd Millennium B.C. Exhibition is visiting the Regional History Museum in Kyustendil from April to September 2011

The joint exhibition of the museums in Stara Zagora, Yambol, Nova Zagora, Radnevo and Pazardzhik „Prehistoric Thracia 6th – 3rd Millennium B.C.” will be exposed at the Kyustendil Regional History Museum from April 2001 to September 2011. It is exhibited at the Ahmeb Bey Mosque Exhibition Hall situated closed to the Ancient Roman Therms in Kyustendil. The exhibition shows marvelous artifacts of the rich prehistoric collections of the five Bulgarian museums among which are the following distinguished vessels: the anthrop-zoomorphic vessel with the image of two human bodies – male and female from Starozagorski Minaralni Bani; the ceramic female figurine from the village of Sarnevo, Stara Zagora district; the richly decorated vessel with graphite and red coloured paint from the village of Yunatsite, Pazardzhik district; the unique collection of miniature vessels from the settlement mound near the village of Drama, Yambol district and lots of other interesting exhibits.

News The Cutlery – Tradition and Modern Times in the Gabrovo Region Exhibition is visiting the House Museum of Dimiter Peshev in Kyustendil

From 19th of March to the end of May 2011 the Etar Architectural-Ethnographic Complex in the town of Gabrovo visits the Kyustendil Regional History Museum with its exhibition devoted to the cutlery at the Gabrovo Region.
The town of Gabrovo with its vicinities is one of the most popular cutlery centers within the Bulgarian lands during the Bulgarian Renaissance. There are more than 150 types of different knives. The exhibition with its 19th century exhibits presents the peculiar tradition and succession in knives’ production within the region of Gabrovo. There are also different legends about the knife and the knife’s saint-patron St. Atanas presented. Through donations, buying and master contests organized at the Etar, today the Etar Museum possesses one of the biggest knife collections of contemporary Bulgarian masters in cutlery.

Volumes XV and XVI of the Proceedings of the Museum of History – Kyustendil came out. They comprise reports presented during the 6th International Symposium “Pautalia-Velbuzhd-Kyustendil and its Adjoining Territories” held on 11th – 13th of October 2007 in Kyustendil.

The event was dedicated to the one hundred anniversary of the Museum’s establishment. It was attended by 82 specialists from museums and scientific institutions within the country and abroad. The reports were presented in one Plenary meeting and four sections: Archeology, Ethnology, History and Science of Art.

For the third time the Embassy of Israel in Sofia is visiting the Kyustendil Regional History Museum with its exhibition arranged at the House-Museum of Dimiter Peshev. Its author Zvika Zelikovitch presents his native town through pictures in details displaying different places and moments of the town’s life. The exhibition created in 1999 for the 90th anniversary of the town’s establishment visits Bulgaria for the first time.

From the 15th of June to the 15th of December 2010 the exhibition “A Hundred Exhibits of the National Polytechnic Museum’s Collection” visits the Regional History Museum – Kyustendil. The Numismatic Collection of the Regional Historical Museum at Kyustendil
.
News A catalogue was published: The Numismatic Collection of the Regional Historical Museum at Kyustendil (Ancient Ulpia Pautalia). Part I: Greek, Thracian, Macedonian, Roman Republican and Roman Provincial Coins. The collection is the second volume of the Coin Collections and Coin Hoards from Bulgaria /CCCHBulg/. The first one includes the numismatic collections of the history museums of Lovech (ancient Melta) and Razgrad (ancient Abritus). What is essential for museum collections in Bulgaria is the fact that have been collecting their numismatic samples from the territory they were in charge of according the Bulgarian legislation. This means that the collections have been developed according chronological order and in this way they are presented in the issue. Firstly, the single coins are listed according to the order they were obtained in the museum’s fund and then come the collective coin hoards accompanied by brief information regarding their discovering and dating.
The authors of the present catalogue have the pleasure of announcing in volume two of the series CCCHBulg the publication for the first time of several exceptionally interesting monetary treasures discovered within the territory of today’s South-west Bulgaria that in the Roman times were administered by the city of Pautalia.

New Numismatic Exhibition ...

News New numismatic exhibition of Regional History Museum – Kyustendil was opened on 17th of May 2008 in the occasion of the International Museums Day – May 18th. It is arranged at the Asklepius exhibition hall (55 Bulgaria St.) and presents a significant part of the museum’s numismatic wealth. There are exposed silver and bronze coins of Macedonian kings, of several Balkan and Asia Minor ancient polises, (5th – 2nd century BC), Roman republican denarii and coins minted during the period of the Roman Empire (1st – 5th century). Roman provincial coins issued by the governments of number of cities within the territory of the Roman Empire, which represent local special features, events, persons, architectural monuments, are pretty particular in their peculiarity and uniqueness. The exhibition contains also coins from Middle Ages – copper and warped coins – from Byzantium and Bulgaria, Venetian silver coins and Ducati. A part of the numismatic collection of coins from Late Middle Ages and Bulgarian Renaissance Epoch is presented too - silver thalers of Western European rulers and cities and Ottoman coins.

News Kyustendil Regional History Museum is visiting the town of Bosilegrad, Serbia, with the exhibition “Congresses and Programme Documents after 1878 on History and Culture of the Bulgarian Lands under Foreign Power”. The opening, which is taking place on February 19th, 2008 at the Cultural Information Center, is devoted to the anniversary of Vasil Levski Hanging and to the 130 anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria. It is going to be exposed for two months.
